Hi guys! On February 4th, Makeup Geek had the first pop-up shop in its eight year run in New York City at the Metropolitan Pavilion between 11 AM – 5 PM. Yours truly was there to see it all, and I vlogged the whole experience! From leaving my house to getting home that afternoon, I filmed the before, during, and after. See my YouTube video for the full scoop.
Since I was so busy filming I couldn’t take many photos, but here are the ones I did take.
As you can see, everything was done very beautifully. I really liked the small touches and the cohesive branding. However, in comparison to the large space, the makeup stations were puny. They were small and there wasn’t a ton of product. They were kind of just laying on tables or set up in a display but in a vey minimalistic way.
You can see more in the video that there were like 89423048 girls and like, 4 or 5 stations. It definitely comes across in the video. Also, instead of just having the product sitting out for us to pick, we had to mark down on a sheet which products we wanted and in what quantity. I guess that makes it easier for them since it is only a one-day event and it ensures no stealing, and no monitoring needed.
Marlena! She was so bubbly and kind and warm. Every hug from her was genuine and sincere. I actually touched her hair, believe it or not. I know. I almost cried, we were talking in front of the bright lights and the equipment setup and I was telling her how long I’d been watching her for and I literally was so encouraged by her warm personality that I told her I loved her hair and actually. reached out. and. touched it. Oh God. So many boundaries breached. Anyway I was being a bit of an idiot so I said okay, let’s just take the picture and I’ll let her go on with her very busy day.
I didn’t buy many products, just because I’ve been trying to stick to a budget and spend reasonably. I ended up spending about $50 on four eyeshadows and a highlighter. The discounts weren’t that steep, they basically knocked $1-$2 off each product, but they were affordably priced anyway so I can’t complain too much. The packaging is beautiful, isn’t it? I thought I took photos of my purchases but it turns out I only filmed them, so the follow shots are screen grabs from my video. Here we go!
Makeup Geek Highlighter – Rekindled $20 ($18 at the event)
Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadow Pan – Starry Eyed $10 ($8 at the event)
Makeup Geek Duochrome Eyeshadow Pan – Havoc $6 ( $5 at the event)
Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadow Pan – Charmed $10 ($8 at the event)
Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadow Pan – Highwire $10 ($8 at the event)
That’s all I purchased at the pop-up shop. In hindsight I wish I had splurged a little more and purchased a few more staple eyeshadows, like Creme Brûlée, Peach Smoothie, and Coco Bear. But for some reason, in-person I wasn’t very wowed by them and weighing them against my existing collection, I felt they were similar to colors I already owned. To finish the post, I’m including a cute photobooth-esque photo I took at the event with the girl in front of me on line, who I ended up totally hanging out with during the whole event! It was me, her, and two girls who were biffs and allowed us to become a one-day clique haha.
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and reading this post! Hope to see you in the next one.
